It’s a guy’s world, here’s your map!

Thoughts on fleeting time, memories of my grandfather’s clock.

Do you know what’s the surest indicator you’re getting old? I suppose most people will say something like “gray hair” or “wrinkled skin”, but I think there’s an even more striking sign which indicates we’ve become of age: overwhelming nostalgia.

Have you ever stood still next to a windows  in mesmerized contemplation of wall clocks, thinking how one of them looked just like the one in your grandfather’s old living room? Have you ever considered getting your own grandfather clock for your own living room, and mused whether you’ll have grandchildren of your own, somewhere down the road? I know I have. Earlier today I was reading an article on antique clocks, and it really struck a chord. I ended up spending the morning researching all about wall howard miller clocks, ridgeway clocks, kieninger clocks, hermle clocks… more clocks that you could shake a stick at.

I was absolutely resolved to try and find out a clock exactly like the one my old grandfather used to own, back when I was just a kid. And all the while, I think it was really all about just trying to get in touch with memories of my lost childhood. In other words, I just realized I’m getting old – regardless of the fact that I don’t have any wrinkles yet, or even a grey hair. How about that?
