I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness…

Forget world hunger, war on middle east or even the financial crisis. Wasted potential is one of the saddest things on earth. Do you know why? Because there are just too many amazing and talented people out there who could work wonders towards making a better world… if only they didn’t get lost in worlds of their own creation. I have this childhood friend, whom I always believed would make it real large in life, and after a few years went by without me hearing much from him, I just learned he’s spending some time in a Los Angeles substance abuse facility. That makes me just so mad, I can barely find an articulate way to put in into words.
It feels as though hoping for a better world is such an utterly lost cause, right now. Sometimes a guy will think he’s got himself figured out, as well as everyone else – and that’s just when life is the most likely to pull the rug from under his feet. This friend of mine, he was the most anti-narcotic person I’ve known, and to learn he’s somehow become an addict over the years just disrupted my perception of reality. Well, at least the place where he committed himself for treatment sounds like a good clinic, and I find it interesting how they use an holistic approach. But still… how, this is one such thing I would never have seen coming. Just makes me think the world would be better of if we all learned to mutually appreciate, respect and nourish our true potential.
